David Porter is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Tasmania and a former judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, having served as a judge of that Court from 2008 to 2016, then as an acting judge from 2017 to 2025 variously in both full-time and part-time capacities. Before his appointment to the Supreme Court he practised as a barrister and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1995. During that time he regularly lectured at the Law School and the UTAS Legal Practice Course of which he was the Director for five years.
