Seán Kerins is a research fellow in anthropology at Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research at the Australian National University. Over the past two decades he has worked closely with Indigenous Peoples and local communities in Aotearoa/New Zealand, Australia and the Faroe Islands on cultural and natural resource management issues.

Prior to coming to the ANU he managed the Northern Land Council’s Caring for Country Unit in Darwin, working with Aboriginal land owners to develop cultural and natural resource management initiatives. Seán also worked as a policy advisor with Te Ohu Kai Moana (The Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission) in Aotearoa/New Zealand, implementing the customary component of the Treaty of Waitangi (Fisheries Claims) Settlement Act 1992. He has also worked in the Faroe Islands undertaking research on the Grindadráp (community-based whaling of long-finned pilot whales).

His recent books include A Thousand Years of Whaling, A Faroese Common Property Regime (2010), a finalist in the 2012 Alberta (Canada) Book Publishing Awards.
