Dr Paul Vout KC is a member of the Victorian and Tasmanian Bars, taking silk in Victoria in 2020. He has been co-editor of the Commonwealth Law Reports since 2016, and is editor of the Laws of Australia titles on ‘Torts’ and on ‘Unconscionable Conduct’. Prior to being called to the Bar, Paul was a Senior Associate with Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) and was instrumental in the establishment of that firm’s Shanghai office. A graduate of the University of Sydney, Paul was the inaugural co-ordinating editor of the social-legal journal Polemic. It was after interviewing Michael Kirby, then President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, for that journal that Paul decided to apply (successfully) to be one of Michael’s two Judges’ Associates for 1991. Among other books, Paul is co-author of Appeals and Appellate Courts of Australia and New Zealand, together with Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales (then President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal) and Sarah E. Fitzgerald.
