Cath Rafferty is currently working in senior policy roles in the Queensland Government, principally in the area of workplace health and safety. She previously had responsibilities in the industrial relations area.
Prior to working for the Queensland Government she established and ran the Queensland Working Women’s Service and the Young Workers Advisory Service. She was also a foundation member of the inaugural Women’s Policy Unit in 1990 and worked as an industrial organiser for the Federated Miscellaneous Workers Union.

Cath completed a Research Master’s Degree in 1989, receiving a Master of Arts, Research from the University of Queensland on A Reappraisal of Karl Kautsky. An article drawn from her thesis was published in the Australian Journal of Politics and History in 1990.
