Judge Troy Anderson SC has served as a judge of the District Court of NSW since 2023. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1998 and was called to the New South Wales Bar in October 2007. Despite practising in commercial litigation as a solicitor, after joining the Bar, Troy practised almost exclusively in the criminal jurisdiction appearing for both the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and on behalf of defendants at first instance as well as at appellate level. In 2017 he was appointed to the NSW Public Defenders Chambers. In 2021 he was appointed Senior Counsel in New South Wales, becoming Deputy Senior Public Defender in 2022. In addition to being the author of Commonwealth Criminal Law, he is the editor of the LexisNexis service The ABC of Evidence and since 2014 he has been a sessional lecturer in criminal law at the University of New England.
