Robert van Krieken is Professor of Sociology at University College Dublin, formerly Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Sydney.
Before his move to Dublin, he established and developed a programme in socio-legal studies at the University of Sydney.

He has published on a range of socio-legal topics, including the relationship between law and social science, and the long-term shifts in parent-child relationships underpinning recent shifts in the law regarding post-separation child custody.

He has also written on the history of child welfare, the stolen generations, and the question of cultural genocide. His books include Children and the State (Allen & Unwin) and Norbert Elias (Routledge), and he is the lead author of Sociology (Pearson), the key Australian sociology text.
