Beginning his professional career as a Pharmacist, Ronald Solomon transferred to Law and practised as a solicitor. For recreation he pursued research in Australian legal history, attaining his PhD (UNSW 2013) for a unique thesis on Barron Field, judge of the earliest ‘Supreme Court of Civil Judicature’. His zest for research has continued with the publication of his first published work, Sir Francis Villeneuve Smith: Third Chief Justice of Tasmania 1870-1885, co-authored with J M Bennett (The Federation Press, 2019).
