His Honour Judge Peter Zahra SC passed away in May 2022. Peter began practising at the Bar in April 1988, initially as a Crown Prosecutor, before switching to the Public Defenders Office the following year. He was appointed as Deputy Senior Public Defender in 1999 and took silk in 2000. In 2001 he was appointed as Senior Public Defender before his elevation to the District Court of NSW in January 2007, where he served with distinction until his untimely passing.  In addition to being a brilliant lawyer and gifted legal writer, Peter was a warm and generous man and he will be greatly missed by all those who worked with him at The Federation Press.
