Dr Michael White OAM QC FRHSQ is an Adjunct Professor and researcher in maritime law and history at the University of Queensland.  Early in his career Dr White was in the RAN as a seagoing officer in various establishments, ships and submarines.  After resigning, he studied law at the University of Queensland before going on to practise as a barrister for over 24 years.  Dr White was the foundation Executor Director of The Centre for Marine Law (later The Marine and Shipping Law Unit) in the TC Beirne School of Law. His PhD was on marine pollution from ships and he has written widely on issues in maritime law and in history.
