Jonathan Woodger is a solicitor in the Tax Disputes and Resolution team at PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia with a particular focus on anti-avoidance matters. He was previously Deputy Chief Tax Counsel at the Australian Taxation Office responsible for determining the Commissioner’s official interpretation of the law as expressed in litigation, guidance on existing law and the design of new legislation including in particular substantial amendments of the general anti-avoidance and transfer pricing rules. He was also the chairperson of the ATO’s General Anti-avoidance Rule Panel and the Public Rulings Panel.

Before that Jonathan was a legislative drafter for the Office of Parliamentary Counsel in Canberra where he drafted many tax and other measures for the Commonwealth government. He is a member of the Tax committee of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and occasionally teaches in the tax law masters program in the Law Faculty at the University of Melbourne.
