Ian Thomas is Associate Professor of Environmental Policy at RMIT in Melbourne. He has worked as a civil engineer dealing with traffic and transportation planning, and has become increasingly involved in environmental policy and management. His research interests include the social approaches for environmental management, the role and effectiveness of environmental policy. A specific aspect of this research has resulted in his preparation of the books listed below and published by The Federation Press.

Ian has extensive experience in the delivery of environmental education to undergraduate and postgraduate students, professionals, and the community. In related research Ian has investigated the status of tertiary environmental programs across Australia, looked at the richness of the environment profession in Australia and related career directions, and most recently has conducted research into the role of Education for Sustainability in universities, and how it can be embedded in all university programs.
