We mourn the passing of one of our most distinguished authors, Emeritus Professor Enid Campbell AC OBE, on 20 January 2010.

Professor Campbell wrote Parliamentary Privilege which we published in 2003, the authoritative text on the subject in Australia, and The Students Guide to Legal Writing which she co-authored with Richard Fox and, most recently, with Melissa de Zwart. The latest edition, the 3rd, was published only three weeks before her death.

We were also proud to publish in 2005, Law and Government in Australia, a book of essays in her honour. The Hon Gough Whitlam contributed the foreword and wrote of her “exceptional intellectual life” and her “important influence”, finishing “Her work has helped us understand the shape of modern government in Australia, and we are the richer for it.”

Professor Campbell was not only a great intellect but an extremely popular author amongst us. Her manuscripts always arrived in impeccable condition and she was ever helpful and pleasant. We shall miss her.
