William Pitt Cobbett was born in Adelaide in 1853 and died on 17 October 1919. He was the Dean of the Law School at the University of Sydney from 1890 to 1910 and was well known for his books on international law. He spent the last decade of his life working on his grand opus on the Constitution and Government of Australia, but died before it could be edited and published. The manuscript was granted to the University of Sydney, with the hope that it would one day be published. One hundred years after his death, Pitt Cobbett’s dying wish has now been fulfilled with the publication of his last and greatest work.
