James O’Donovan was a Professor of Law at the University of Western Australia from 1985 to 2013. He is a former Dean of Law at the University of Queensland and the University of Western Australia. He was awarded a PhD by the Australian National University in 1976, and an LLD by the University of Queensland in 2004. His publications include: Company Receivers and Administrators; The Modern Contract of Guarantee (with Professor JC Phillips); Lender Liability (with Dr Vicky Priskich); and Personal Property Securities Law in Australia.

He has been a regular contributor to conferences organised by the Banking Lawyers’ Association and ARITA. He is currently working on a major work on Corporate Restructuring, which will be published by Thomson Reuters in late 2024.
