David Barker AM, FAAL, LLB (Lond), MPhil (Kent), LLM (Cantab), PhD (Macq), is Emeritus Professor and a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) He is Secretary and a Foundation Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. He has held many other positions, including Secretary, Chairperson and President of the Australasian Law Teachers Association and is currently Secretary of its successor Association, the Australasian Law Academics Association. He is the former Chair, Council of Australian Law Deans (CALD), Member of the NSW Legal Profession Admission Board, Editor of the ALTA Research Series, Legal Education Digest, Australian Student Law Reporter and Cavendish Essential Law Series and Co-editor of Law Asia. He is also a past President of the City of Sydney Law Society (2009).

He is the author of the best-selling UK law book, Law Made Simple and the Australian law books, Essential Australian Law and A History of Australian Legal Education, and is the current correspondent for the Australian Law ’Journal’s column From the Law Schools.

In 2006, in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) ‘For services to legal education in Australia and the Pacific region, to professional associations and to the community’.
