Abstract from

Socio-legality and La Trobe University: Introducing and Celebrating a Broad Church of Ideas

Kerry Petersen is an Associate Professor with the Law School at La Trobe University. She has published extensively in the field of human reproduction law and has co-edited Disputes and Dilemmas in Health Law (Federation Press).

She has been involved in multi-disciplinary research as a Chief Investigator on two ARC Discovery-funded projects with research teams from the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (La Trobe University) and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (University of Melbourne) and is currently working on a project with colleagues from the Mother and Child Health Research Centre (La Trobe University).

She is a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Victoria and Women’s Health Victoria, and is the lawyer on the Melbourne IVF Human Research Ethics Committee.

This volume represents a diverse range of socio-legal intellectual streams and celebrates the contribution of former and current La Trobe University scholars to socio-legality. The articles arose from a workshop held to reflect upon the contribution and future of socio-legality in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of the La Trobe Law School, home of Law in Context. Apart from celebrating socio-legality, it also acts as a record of the history and some of the achievements of the former Department of Legal Studies.
